James G. Steiker and Avery M. Chenin Present at the Employee Owned 2021 Conference

LAS VEGAS, NV, November 11, 2021 – James G. Steiker and Avery M. Chenin of SES ESOP Strategies presented at the Employee Owned 2021 Conference, a hybrid event held for in-person audiences at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas on November 10-12

Mr. Steiker joined Craig Olinger, Managing Partner of ESI Equity, and Eric S. Zaiman, Managing Director of J.P. Morgan’s ESOP Advisory Group, in presenting “Emerging Trends in New ESOP Transactions.” The session addressed concerns surrounding Department of Labor (DOL) investigations and litigation, and offered insights into transaction elements that have evolved and structures that have emerged from DOL regulatory scrutiny.

Mr. Chenin presented “A Year With a Trustee” with Stephen C. James, Trustee of SCJ Fiduciary Services. Discussion explored the yearly “high points” in a trustee’s fiduciary role, including their impact on valuation updates, shareholder and Board meetings and other special events.  

As Chairman of SES ESOP Strategies, Mr. Steiker focuses on ESOP design, transactions and compliance in entrepreneurial companies. He is a corporate, pension and tax attorney and financial advisor with more than 35 years of experience in ESOPs and other employee ownership matters.

Mr. Steiker has served on the ESOP Association Board of Governors and is a past Chair of the ESOP Association’s Advisory Committee on Finance. He is also a Trustee of the Employee Ownership Foundation and a former member of the Board of Directors of the National Center for Employee Ownership. He is a director of the Employee Ownership Expansion Network and also serves as a Director of seven ESOP companies.

As a thought leader in his field, Mr. Steiker has contributed to numerous National Center for Employee Ownership publications and has authored articles for many trade journals. He presents regularly on ESOP topics to the annual and regional meetings of the ESOP Association and the National Center for Employee Ownership, ESOP state employee ownership center conferences, and to general and professional audiences. Mr. Steiker holds a J.D. from the New York University School of Law and a B.A. from Wesleyan University.

For more than 25 years, Mr. Chenin has counseled businesses and their owners on how to incorporate employee ownership into their business succession plans. He represents closely held businesses and their selling shareholders, ESOP sponsors and ESOP fiduciaries in transactions involving employer securities.

Mr. Chenin works with companies and their owners in the planning, development, implementation and ongoing maintenance of ESOPs. He also helps clients with IRS and Department of Labor examinations and audits, and in the resolution of plan defects, including the submission of plan corrections under both the IRS and Department of Labor correction programs. He holds a J.D. and a B.S. in Accounting from Case Western Reserve University.
